Biography

Katherine McQuay is a senior communications advisor with the Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) in the Department of Justice. McQuay has served in a variety of roles during her two decades at the COPS Office. Her work has included serving on the President’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing and the Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice. She was instrumental in the development of the COPS Office primary technical assistance vehicle – the Collaborative Reform Initiative – as well as the Critical Response program.

Prior to joining the Department of Justice, McQuay served as Manager of the Press Office for NBC News in New York. McQuay began her career at WBAL Radio in Baltimore, where she worked as a reporter, news director, and executive producer for the news-talk station.

McQuay is the recipient of the Attorney General’s Award for Distinguished Public Service for her role in developing the COPS Office Collaborative Reform Initiative and she was a finalist for the Samuel J. Heyman Service to America Medal for her work in creating private/public partnerships for the COPS Office.

In addition to her work at DOJ, McQuay is also a frequent public speaker, focusing on topics related to personal growth and development. As a professional writer, McQuay’s portfolio includes speeches, press kits, and articles, and her work has been published in news outlets including the “Washington Post” “Baltimore” magazine.
