Biography

Ricky Frassetti was born in Brooklyn, New York. Ricky’s dad instilled in him the importance of government work as he was a Private in the U.S. Army during WWII. Ricky took the New York Police Department exam at the age of 16. When Ricky was 19, he was called by the NYPD and was told he was too young to join the department at that time. He was called again at the age of 20 and his career in policing began. Ricky was a police officer for the NYPD from 1988-1993. In July 1993 Ricky was called by the Nassau County Police Department and here his beloved career in policing truly began. Ricky is a 36-year veteran of the police department. During his career, Ricky was elected as union trustee many times. While he was a trustee, he also served as the local liaison to the Nassau County legislature for many years. During his time as Nassau County Police Officer, Ricky earned many certificates and awards including Medal of Distinguished Service and numerous meritorious awards.

He then became a detective and later was promoted to sergeant. It was at this point in his career that Ricky truly found a passion for union work. Ricky was elected as 2nd Vice President of the Superior Officers Association in 2019 and held that position for one year. He was then elected President in 2000 and has held that position where he is proudly serving a second term. He was elected each time unopposed. It was also during this time that Ricky delt with contract issues where he settled an 8.5-year contract for his members as well as dealing with disciplinary issues. He oversees the Board of Executives, which consists of five members, as well as the Board of Governors which consists of 15 Trustees. He represents 372 members ranging from rank of sergeant to chief. Representing the members of the Superior Officers Association is something held near and dear to Ricky’s heart. The work he does is for the betterment of his members and for their families.

Ricky oversees a budget which he has taken to a new level affording the Superior Officers Association the ability to stand on their own. A tremendous goal upon being named President was to show the Nassau County Police Department as well as the community that the SOA exists, to let everyone know who they are and what they represent and that they are strong and ready to roll up their sleeves for whatever comes their way; to help in any way possible.

Ricky is part of the Nassau County Police Department’s Peer Support Team as well as the Wellness Committee where he serves as a counselor. In this role, he is called out to critical incidents to speak with members who may have been involved in a horrific scenario where they are in need of counseling and support.

Philanthropy is extremely important to Ricky. One of the first missions he initiated when he became President of the SOA was the Superior Officers Charitable Foundation. Since its creation, with the help of many contributions from countless supporters to which he is tremendously grateful, this Foundation has already helped members and families affected by tragedies or illness. Over the past couple of years, numerous scholarships have been created as well. Over the course of his career, Ricky has chaired and volunteered alongside Island Harvest for food drives including their annual Veterans Day Food Drive, the Community Backpack Giveaway and Toys for Tots where he has been named Co-Chairman. During the aftermath of 911, Ricky volunteered countless hours helping at Ground Zero.

Ricky had been attending John Jay College of Criminal Justice at the time he was called to the New York City Police Department which caused him to put his college education on hold. Earning a college degree was very important to Ricky. He returned to college while working as a police officer in Nassau County and first received his Associates Degree in Science and he then continued to earn his Degree of Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in April 2001. He has a certificate in Instructor Development as well. He has been an instructor speaking to recruits and incoming sergeants for the past 18 years, which is something he thoroughly enjoys. He is also a field training officer where he trained and evaluated police recruits prior to graduating from the police academy.

Ricky is married to his high school sweetheart, Maria and they have two beautiful daughters, Elisabeth and Alexa who adore their dad. Ricky’s mother called him her “rock.” He has always been mature, levelheaded and a natural born leader. He is a man of his word, and he is fair – always trying to see things from all perspectives. It is one of the qualities his wife loves most about him.
