Timothy Mehta

Timothy Mehta retired from the New York City Police Department in January 2024 after serving for more than 33 years. Timothy Mehta began his career on patrol in the 113 Precinct in 1990. He was promoted to Sergeant in July 1995 and was assigned to the 24 Precinct. He was transferred to the Intelligence Division in 2001 and promoted to Sergeant Supervisor Detective Squad in December 2009.

Timothy Mehta had served in the NYPD / Intelligence Division for the past twenty-two years serving as the Field Intelligence Officer of the 24 Precinct, Commanding Officer of the Demographics Unit, and for the last ten years a supervisor in the Threat Assessment and Protection Unit. As a supervisor in the Threat Assessment and Protection Unit, Timothy Mehta was responsible for coordinating New York Police Department assets used to support dignitary protection missions in New York City.

Throughout Timothy Mehta’s assignment as a supervisor in the Threat Assessment and Protection unit he was the local law enforcement lead for the 2015 Papal Visit, Presidential, Vice Presidential, high threat foreign head of state visits and the United Nations General Assembly from 2014 thru 2023. He supervised the NYPD executive protection teams for Senator Schumer & Senator Gillibrand.

Timothy Mehta led the development and implementation of the current NYPD Dignitary (Executive) Protection training program. For the last 4 years Timothy Mehta served as lead instructor. As lead instructor he trained more than 3000 members of the NYPD and 500 law enforcement officers from more than 40 local law enforcement agencies.

Timothy Mehta received the United States Secret Service Director’s Honor Award in 2023.

Timothy Mehta has been married to his wife Jacqueline for 22 years and has three children, Tim Jr, Mark and Claire.
